Waking up is when you stop dreaming.
Right?
What if we live our lives in an illusion of the world?
Dreaming of how a conversation will go.
Dreaming of things going differently at our work
Dreaming of what we want to happen to our bank account.
Expectations are simply another word for dreaming.
It’s hard to see reality as it is and accept that it is what it is…
Removal of these endless desires, fantasies and dreams that we layer on top of reality.
That is the moment when we are finally awake.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
Cheshire Cat
Wanting things to be this way and that way, it creates an illusion that they should be this way or that way.
Nothing should be what it isn’t.
A neutron should no more be a proton than a rainy day should be a sunny day, or an elephant should be a sock.
They are what they are and they shouldn’t be what they are not.
What would happen if Dave looked in his sock drawer and got frustrated they weren’t all elephants?
We would say there is something very wrong with Dave.
“A sock can’t be an elephant”, we’d say.
“Whatever are you thinking, DAVE?!?”
But let’s say Dave thinks Melissa should love him, even though she doesn’t, apparently that’s a completely fine thought.
Yet Melissa could never love Dave right now, if he isn’t what Melissa loves.
(Possibly because he wants to wear elephants as socks, sicko)
"Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast"
Alice (In Wonderland)
Let’s say you burn your roast potatoes and want them to be not burnt.
It won’t make any difference.
Wanting things doesn’t change them.
It just means you haven’t accepted reality and that is what makes you feel bad.
Burnt potatoes aren’t tasty but you don’t have to eat them.
They are not in themselves bad and you can still eat the rest of your meal and have a delightful time.
Alternatively, you can be a moody piss-bag all afternoon if you choose.
But remember that you are choosing this.
Okay sure, maybe some twat of a relative complains about your burnt potatoes but it’s their problem if they are annoyed.
It’s only your problem if you choose to take ownership of this problem that doesn’t exist outside of your mind where you let it grow.
“That’s logic”
Tweedle-Dwee and Tweedle-Dum
Whatever happens - Life is not over.
However, life becomes worse if you are frustrated by the time wasted burning your potatoes or anything else you don’t want to happen.
Melissa not loving Dave is not bad and causes him no harm at all.
Zero.
Wanting someone to love you when they don’t, is what hurts.
Sometimes the alarm goes off and we really don’t want to wake up.
We cling to our sleep like Dave would cling to Melissa if she let him.
(She won’t)
But sometimes you just have to wake up.
This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.
You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
